The Hula Kahiko, (in old way) performed semi nude as this wahini kahiko, (women of ancient times) showed their innocent oneness with nature. The hula origins were Polynesian, but it’s strictly a Hawaiian dance as a form of narration, historic, religious and symbolic. So, as such, lacking a form of writing the hula was the method of storytelling that preserved their ancient history and legends. This dance could have been in recognition of the diety that supplied the abundance of sparkling fresh water (wai) on their islands.
